Arsenal knew well in advance that they had no money for this transfer window – Guillem Balague.

Transfer targets associated with Arsenal appear on a daily basis, despite Arsenal revealing that they can only loan players in this window.

Unai Emery spoke of Arsenal’s inability to spend and suitably reinforce, which caught many by surprise but according to Guillem Balague in The Express, Arsenal already knew in advance that they would not be in a position to buy.

“Arsenal spent a lot of money in the summer and the last winter market with [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and spent a lot of money of three players in terms of wages, Aubameyang, [Mesut] Ozil and [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan,”

He went on

“So the position was clear for this one that they would have to try and fill the holes, not the centre-back hole unless a bargain appears in the market.”

If ever a hole needed plugging its in defence. Arsenal should have a banner just outside the box which says “ Help yourself ! “ because a great many do.

I find it staggering that they are not looking at a defender and that Gary Cahill isn’t even on the loan list.

Alright he’s not the quickest of defenders but still blessed with the experience and ability to defend resolutely and in the short term, he could hold things together.

Balague went on to offer a crumb of comfort to disenchanted fans by adding

“In the summer, the good news for Arsenal fans is that there will be money,”
