The need for another defender is becoming clear, despite the rhetoric, indications that Arsenal can make do and the reluctance to spend. Arsenal are and have been struggling in defence, which is nothing new and with recent injuries, that need for a commanding central defender is even more acute.
So, it appears that Arsenal are looking at Real Valladolid defender Fernando Calero (23) but there is said to be competition from Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund.
The Spaniard cuts an imposing figure at 1.83 meters and is usually seen at the heart of defence issuing instructions and making crucial tackles to break up surging attacks.
He appears composed, confident on the ball under pressure and can pass extremely well over either short or long distances.
That said, his key attribute for me, is his desire and determination to retrieve the ball and launch a counter attack.

if Arsenal are serious about success, they need to find quality for that particular position and at least another play maker to realise any ambition they may have.
